'Diddley, by Nemo Librizzi'(LP #38)

This week’s LONGPLAY is something special. It’s a collaboration between varied/mix and one of my favorite voices in radio: Nemo Librizzi.

You may know Nemo from his deep-cut selections, his poet’s ear, his mystical sense of memory and sound. A New York original with antenna tuned to forgotten frequencies. This set came together, as he says “like a jigsaw puzzle all one piece.”

Woven into this journey are the words of Theodore Roethke, a poet who wrote from beneath the surface. From cellars, shadows, tangled roots, and ecstatic awakenings. You’ll hear his voice throughout tonight’s mix, sometimes clearly and sometimes drifting in like a dream.

The playlist is a constellation: stretching from Cardinal Rex Lawson to Mozart, Digital Underground to Cesária Évora, Dr. Dooom to The Fugs. It’s music and poetry. History and hallucination. Somewhere between gospel and grime, dub and Dada.

So settle in. Dim the lights. And as Roethke once wrote:

“I learn by going where I have to go.”
