welcome to varied/mix - longplay #8.
This is a space for long playlists we’ve curated and crafted to provide enhanced sonic experiences, highlighting songs from various cultures and musical traditions. We’ve teamed up with BrainRot Radio, a non-profit independent internet radio station broadcasting on both coasts, to bring the playlists to life on the air. Tune in live on Tuesdays from 12:30 AM to 2 AM for the live radio set of varied/mix - longplay.
Reggae Royalty
We’ve got a really special set for you here. Tonight‘s theme is: Reggae Royalty. We appreciate all types of music here at varied/mix and one of those is of course reggae. From Jamaica originally, it’s gone across the world as a major part of many peoples lives culturally and otherwise. Musically, sonically: that’s what we’re here to appreciate.
It’s a little bit of what you might not expect. Not the most popular reggae songs, but definitely some of the royalty when it comes to reggae tunes. Near the end of the playlist you’ll find reggae royalty for sure with Bunny Wailer’s ‘This Train’. Reinterpreted by lots of people I like that version the best. Eight minutes long, where else can you hear it but here on the longplay. I finish out the set with an equally long song maybe even longer Bob Marley’s ‘Waiting in Vain’. A track that I put on the varied/mix weekly a few weeks back. It’s an acoustic version, sung most likely on a couch somewhere, it’s beautiful.
I’d like to give a shout out to thank you to all the people who have showed me this music. I wouldn’t of discovered it on my own. Listening in the streets is always been a great way to discover music for me, especially growing up here in New York, hearing people playing music out of their cars on the speakers.
You can find the setlist below and the playlist on Spotify & YouTube.
Thanks for listening, and see you next week!
